[Commentary] Happy New Year!

  • Commentary

2006 is upon us. Right on schedule too—imagine that. :) Traditionally, this is a time to reflect on the year past and to consider what you would like to accomplish in the year ahead.

As a third party observer, 2005 was a very good year for Servoy. Version 2.2 was released early in the year and saw a plethora of enhancements and added features throughout the course of the year. Some of the key additions were:

  • modules
  • headless client
  • many additional properties and functions for finer UI control
  • major enhancements for plugin developers
  • lots of new and very useful default plugins
  • major performance enhancements
  • application server optimizations

Undoubtedly the highlight of the year for me was the first ever Servoy conference which convened in Amsterdam this past September. Meeting long time forum posters, Servoy Magazine authors and the Servoy staff for the first time was a real treat. Thankfully many of you wrote your forum nics on your name tags which really helped me to remember who was who after nine beers. It was very clear at the conference that many intelligent—and beer drinking—developers have taken up with Servoy.

I would like to say a big THANK YOU to the Servoy people for their amazing accomplishments this past year. The list of feature enhancements and additions you made in one year to the product is mind boggling. And as always, your response to bug reports could be made a case study for the software industry. I think I speak for all Servoy developers when I say that not only do we love working with Servoy (it's such a great product—hard to believe Servoy is less than three years old!), we also mightily enjoy interacting with you.

With 2005 successfully in the books, I am looking forward to 2006. I am quite positive it will be another year of me being completely inundated trying to keep up with all the new and cool things Servoy can do. And as the developer community continues to grow by leaps and bounds, I look forward to the input all of you will bring this new year. (Please feel free to contribute in 2006! The official forums, Servoy Magazine and the soon to come Servoy Forge are good places to start with.)

To a fun 2006. Hope to see you at Servoy World 2006.

Cheers,

Agree with Bob (well who wouldn't...) that David deserves great praise for building Servoy Magazine into a real storehouse of essential information. 2005 has been a great Servoy Year - with the Dev team introducing an astonishing array of new features - I'm already looking forward to Servoy 3, 4, 5 - although maybe we should skip 7.0 :)
