[News] Servoy engineers go on strike

In an uncharacteristic display of unanimity, Servoy engineers went on strike today for what they termed "cruel and unusual working conditions."

Jan Aleman, CEO of Servoy found out about the strike this morning upon arriving to work. Nailed to the door of the windmill that serves as their offices was a document detailing 95 issues that need to be resolved.

Unfortunately, it took Jan several hours to realize that it wasn't the morning newspaper as he is currently involved in an ongoing feud with the local paper boy that up to this point was limited to throwing papers at each other. Jan apparently flattened the kid's bicycle tires in retaliation for the nail holes in his door before reading the "paper" this morning.

Servoy Magazine has obtained a decoded copy of the 95 thesis (is was base64 encoded for some unknown reason). Some of the more interesting issues (that can be published) include the following:

"Acknowledge us as the true 2-bit gods."

"Oracle needs to buy us out for an undisclosed large sum. Or at least buy us new scooters."

"The gears in the air conditioning are squeaky."

"Don't challenge us!"

"We should be allowed to poke the next FileMaker developer who can't pronounce 'repository' with red-hot skewers. Repeatedly."

"Quit telling us to write documentation. It works doesn't it?"

"The minimum specs for mac users is to be changed to require a two-button mouse, a mac newer than 1992 and a donor brain from a Linux user."

"l337 H4xor r u$. w3 w/\n7 phP\33 |3eer."

While offering no comments, Jan Aleman was overheard saying, "What do they expect? They're just geeks. Geeks have no rights in Holland." A recently filed law suit suggests paper boys do though.

We found Bob Cusick reclining by his pool in sunny California. He had this to say, "that's it, no more rubber duckies allowed in their cubicles."

When this will be resolved is anyones' guess. Jan was miraculously able to locate the missing employees at a local pub 100 feet down the street. He has yet to come out.

Hmm, it looks the reports down here in Holland say they were seen in the Amsterdam Red Light District area swimming in the canals. It was either Jan Blok or Johan Compagner that was diving to the bottom of the canals trying to find the last bits of was supposed to be the solution. People were shouting at them telling them that then needed another type of bits to solve their problems but they were reported to be too drunk to understand what they were saying. I will personally step into my car to see what's happening out there and see how I can help... This is a serious situation... I'll report back to you later! Marcel

OK, I am back from my fact finding mission. I have seen a great deal of highway surface and tasted a lot of beers in order to reach the guys. I must say the mission was successfull! We have been talking quite some time with each other and I agree with the dev team. I therefor suggest that we, SAN members, support the Dev team and go on strike too. In the mean time we will be awaiting you all here in Amsterdam. Look for the 'Oudezijds Voorburgwal'. You will find a bar on every corner. On of them (I really don't know which one anymore) is where you will find us in :-) Strike will last another 96 hours until Monday :-) Cheers, marcel
The Amsterdam Times
Special report from the Amsterdam Times The Amsterdam Times has learned that interesting things have been going on in the capital of Europe. Unlike the author of the article at the so called 'Servoy Magazine' states the Amsterdam Times has found out that the engineers actually went on strike because of a conflict with the author of Servoy Magazine. It appears that the SAN members had to pay one beer per stupid question they would ask and that Servoy magazine would take care of the logistics involved on delivering the shipping on April 1st in Amsterdam. The so-called SAN-members apparantly have shipped over 248 thousand beers to the premises of Servoy Magazine (only 24 thousands short of what they owed) but so far no beers have arrived in Amsterdam. Servoy engineers suspect a certain David W is enjoying the beers himself and have gone on strike until the beers arrive in the harbour of Amsterdam. Rumours go that they have hacked a local wireless network to upgrade existing Servoy developer installions to an new version that for every developer mistake will display a message starting with SDD (stupid developer detected) but these rumours remain unfconfirmed. The Amsterdam times requested David W. for commentary on the situation but was unable to reach him for unknown reasons. --advertisement-- For Sale: Windmill, in great condition with wireless internet access point. Fits up to five developers comfortly. Contact 0800-SVY for more information

Do windmills run on hot air? If so, Soltex wants to make an offer; they have been looking for a place for David W for some time now but, unfortunately, he keeps coming back!

We (the developers and I) followed the link attached to the above article and we can definitely confirm that both ladies shown in there are at our table. We have a lot of fun and the conditions to make us stop the strike are definitely raised. The idea is to rebuild this bar in the Servoy offices with 24/7 services. This is not a coniditon on top of the before metioned ones but the very basic one. I love it :-)
Washington Post
Breaking news from The Washington Post Not since Holland decriminalized cannabis in 1975 has there been a story of this significance out of this tiny little country. The Amsterdam Times is reporting that a certain Washington, DC resident has single-handedly masterminded the collapse of the country's entire advanced technology efforts. To quote a senior editor: "The whole country finds the tactics of one Mr. David W reprehensible. We are extremely proud of the fact that it took only 7 guys and a windmill to come up with the next generation of pathetically-easy-to-use software development tools. It's not their fault that the rest of the world has turned out to be statistically stupider than pathetically-easy-to-use." "Unfortunately, because of Mr. David W's actions the country of Holland is facing an identity crisis the likes of which haven't been experienced since his great-great-great-great-great-great uncle on his mother's father's sister's side yelled, 'tulips are just plants for gawds sake!' in 1637." "As a result of this connection, we have prevailed on the US government to investigate if some of his other relatives were responsible for the .com crash a few years ago. We have a credible source that can place him in a Palo Alto Starbucks talking in hushed tones with his brother-in-law right about that time." While the details of all this fuss are still murky, it should be noted that Washington DC's most famous monument to beer drinking and Guinness world record holder for most commercially available beers -- The Brickskeller -- just released a public statement: "Due to an unnamed patron, we are proud to announce that our previous record of 4,000 different beers from around the world has been substantially increased. By an order of magnitude based on the power of two to be exact. For the next three years we will be running happy hour 24/7. The theme will be 'stupid beers from around the world' and each week will feature a different country. Our anonymous patron insisted that we start this week off with Holland." Unfortunately for The Brickskeller, in an unrelated report that also broke today, the current US administration and Iran have finally found common ground for peace. In an abrupt turn-around of international relations, the two countries have banded together to pursue a world-wide ban on alcohol. A highly placed source says that plans to globally ban gay marriages and boob jobs are also being discussed. Lending credibility to this turn of events, a US government spokesperson confirms that the US no longer plans to withdraw it troops from Iraq via Iran. Mr. David W has mysteriously disappeared and cannot be reached for comment.
