[News] Welcome to the "New" Servoy Magazine

Hi, welcome to the "new" Servoy Magazine! Recently I was given the rights to this site with the responsibility to turn it into a thriving source of information for Servoy developers.

With the help of various contributors, Servoy Magazine will provide Servoy information from the esoteric to the mundane. Stick around and you will find information on how to create your first Servoy solution to putting graphics in value lists to creating a full calendar solution with html. The breadth, flexibility and power that Servoy brings to the table is astonishing.

Ultimately, the goal of Servoy Magazine is to be your window into all the neat (and sometimes ridiculous) things other Servoy developers are doing with this awesome tool.

Much has happened since the "early days" of Servoy (approximately two-thousand and three years and four months after the death of some VIP)—when Servoy was at version 1.0 and you had to bless your Mac computer with holy water from St. Peter's to get the menus to show up. Servoy is now at version 2.1 and is considered by many to be "the" GUI tool for building applications accessing data in any SQL back-end.

In the same time, the developers of Servoy have proven they can squash bugs and add features in a wonderfully open manner (check out Servoy forum) that you won't see from any other software vendor outside of the open source community. A couple of features in Servoy today are there because I asked for them at some point. Many other developers have been stretching the envelope with their needs and persistence and they too have features in Servoy to their credit. How cool is that?

No wonder there is a growing community of Servoy fans and developers the world over. The acceptance of Servoy in mainstream technology has been nothing short of phenomenal. (The reaction to my Servoy demos at the Apple + Oracle 10g road shows in Cupertino, CA and Reston, VA a few months back was pretty incredible. I felt like a rock star for one moment in time... :) If you are checking out Servoy for the first time, be prepared to have your eyes opened to the possibilities that await you.

With the new blog format, Servoy Magazine is set up to grow with you: the developer. Articles, tips, training files, news, success stories, and the occasional commentary will be added on a weekly basis. Feel free to leave comments and become a contributor yourself. If you have any suggestions for the site, please drop me an email.

Hi David I'm just starting to work with Servoy's calendar pop-up. Specifically I'm looking to enable the end user to set the time as well as the date. So far it sets the current time, doesn't give the user the option to change the time. I'm surprised, seems counter-intuitive. Thought I'd search the magazine and see if anything has been posted on the subject. Entering "calendar" in the search field top left of the home page produces -- the home page. Does this mean A: nothing has been written about the calendar so far? or B: that's not how the search field is intended to be used? Kind regards,

You're using the search correctly. Apparently this is the only article with the word "calendar" in it so far! The next big article coming up soon is all about a calendar solution. But what you are talking about is the calendar field type. If you set the datetime field format to "dd-MM-yyyy HH:mm" the built in pop-up calendar picker allows you to change the time as well as the date. Luck
